Why last look needs a new look - FX Markets

Image
For what seems like an eternity, the controversy surrounding last look practices has hung over the foreign exchange industry like a dark cloud. The practice involves a liquidity provider (LP) rejecting or requoting a trade after receiving the order from a client, but crucially before executing it. Basically, it allows the LP, albeit for a brief moment, to assess the market and decide whether to accept or reject a trade, even after the investment manager has requested the transaction. 2024 Systematic Fixed Income Outlook - BlackRock

A "new" conundrum for bonds? The combined impact of all those factors might lead to what we'll call the potential for a new conundrum for bond investors. Recall the old conundrum, coined by then Fed Chair Greenspan during the 2004-2005 hiking cycle at his February 2005 Humphrey Hawkins Congressional Testimony: "The broadly unanticipated behavior of world bond markets remains a conundrum… Long term interest rates have trended lower in recent months even as the Federal Reserve has raised the level of the target Federal Funds Rate by 150 basis points. This development contrasts with most experience, which suggests that, other things being equal, increasing short term interest rates are normally accompanied by a rise in longer term yields." Today of course, the conditions are reversed. The Fed is broadly expected to cut rates in 2024, and long term interest rates are broadly expected to follow those cuts lower as well. However, the potential for the above outlin...

3 Best Forex Brokers for 2024 - NerdWallet

Trading forex, which involves exchanging one currency for another on the foreign exchange market, involves a level of risk and complexity that you might not find in traditional investing. That's why it's especially important to choose a broker that helps you understand and navigate the potential costs and benefits associated with forex. When selecting your forex broker, you should consider trading platforms and tools, the number of currency pairs offered, customer service and, of course, trading costs. But comparing costs is tricky in forex trading . Some brokers charge a commission, while others are compensated with a spread, or a markup between the price they pay for an asset and what they sell it for. That's just one reason why the search for the best forex broker is complex. Another is that there are a variety of brokers, many of them unregulated or regulated in countries outside of the U.S. For our list of best currency trading brokers, we considered only those that ar...

AvaTrade Review - Is it Legit? (March 2024) - Securities.io

Image
AvaTrade promote commission-free trading through all of their available account types. This is made possible due in part to the fact that they are a market maker broker who essential operate their own internal market pricing and act as a counterpart to your trades. This is the opposite of some brokers who facilitate direct market access with reduced or no spread, but impose commission. The spreads across the board at AvaTrade start at a competitive level. When trading major markets such as the EUR/USD forex market, you can expect spreads to start from 0.9 pips. This can reduce further if you open a professional trading account which the broker does offer. For these traders, the spreads start from 0.6 pips, though these accounts have a number of requirements and are generally only accessible to UK and EU traders. Trading in markets other than forex, such as indices, crypto, and stocks, the spread generally has a starting point of between 0.13% (stocks), up to 0.35% (crypto). AvaTrade fe...

McKinsey Global Private Markets Review 2024: Private markets in a slower era - McKinsey

Image
At a glance Macroeconomic challenges continued If 2022 was a tale of two halves, with robust fundraising and deal activity in the first six months followed by a slowdown in the second half, then 2023 might be considered a tale of one whole. Macroeconomic headwinds persisted throughout the year, with rising financing costs, and an uncertain growth outlook taking a toll on private markets. Full-year fundraising continued to decline from 2021's lofty peak, weighed down by the "denominator effect" that persisted in part due to a less active deal market. Managers largely held onto assets to avoid selling in a lower-multiple environment, fueling an activity-dampening cycle in which distribution-starved limited partners (LPs) reined in new commitments. Performance in most private asset classes remained below historical averages for a second consecutive year. Decade-long tailwinds from low and falling interest rates and consistently expanding multiples seem to be thing...

Egypt floats its currency and agrees with the IMF to increase a bailout loan to $8 billion - The Associated Press

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt on Wednesday floated its currency and announced a deal with the International Monetary Fund to increase its bailout loan from $3 billion to $8 billion, moving to shore up an economy hit by a staggering shortage of foreign currency and soaring inflation. The flotation of the Egyptian pound, combined with a sharp raise of the main interest rate, is meant to combat inflationary waves and attract foreign investment . The measures, announced by the Central Bank of Egypt early Wednesday, were among the key demands of the IMF to increase its $3 billion bailout loan that both parties agreed to in 2022. The central bank, known as CBE, increased the key interest rate by 600 basis points to 27.75%. Following the announcement, the pound began floating and within hours lost more than 60% of its value against the dollar. By the end of the day, commercial banks were trading the U.S. currency at more than 50 pounds for $1, up from about 31 pounds. The value of a floating c...
